Tour the US Capitol to Learn More About American Politics

You’ve hit most of DC’s museums, but what about getting into the center of the political action with a look at the US Capitol? You can tour the US Capitol Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to learn more about this incredibly important building.

Book a tour in advance or just plan to peruse the building and its exhibits, like the current exhibition Congress and the Separation of Powers Part 2. Start at the main hall for an overview of the history of Congress and the building itself, watch the brief orientation film, and then continue onto the visitor’s galleries. You can even sit in with Congress if they are in session. It’s your chance to watch history being made as each bill is passed or rejected. Be sure to visit the website for advance passes to attend a congressional session, and to read more about prohibited items and Capitol etiquette before your visit. There is also a café and gift shop on the premises — everything you need to make a full day at the US Capitol building.
