Don’t Miss “Disrupting Craft” at the Renwick Gallery
The Smithsonian American Art Museum plays host to a huge variety of masterpieces in all different forms, but the Renwick Gallery homes in on a distinct era and type of art. It houses a collection of crafts made by American artisans, starting in the 19th century all the way up through the present day.
The Renwick Gallery boasts a permanent collection of the handiworks, along with an ever-changing lineup of special exhibits. Now through May 5th, you can check out Disrupting Craft. The temporary exhibit showcases works from artists who were specifically invited to participate by the museum’s curator. The four artists use all different types of materials to make their crafts, but they’re all interested in one common theme: inclusivity. They designed the masterpieces to incite emotion and express their own ideas about activism, making this exhibit a particularly timely one. The Renwick Gallery offers free admission on a daily basis.
