Expect an Italian Take on Tapas at Retrobottega

Retrobottega, an Italian restaurant specializing in a new approach to tapas, opened in July and its small plates have been impressing people in a big way. After visiting several cicchetterias (chicchetti is Italian for small snacks) in Venice, Italy, co-owners Rolando Frias and Matteo Catalani were inspired to open Retrobottega in Adams Morgan this past summer

If you’ve had the pleasure of dining at one of the Al Volo restaurants where Frias and Catalani are partnered with Daniele Catalani, then it comes as no surprise that the dishes being served at this new spot are the talk of the town. Arancini, fried artichokes, and fried truffle mozzarella cheese are just a few of the flavorful plates you can share with the table. You can also create your own cheese and charcuterie board with options like the creamy burrata paired with the drycured prosciutto san daniele. For your pasta course, the rabbit alla cacciatora will have you and your guests fighting for the last bite. Served with tomatoes, green olives, mushrooms, and roasted potatoes, it’s a Venetian dream come true.
