Set right on the National Mall, it's easy to understand why the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden is one of the most-visited art museums in the country. It's not just because of the prime location. The museum is also free to the public, and it's open 364 days a year, making access easy.
Its founder and namesake Joseph Hirshhorn launched the museum in 1974 with his own collection more than 6,000 paintings, sculptures, and other masterpieces. The collection has only grown since then into an impressive array of post-war pieces from both America and Europe.
