Museum of Unnatural History: You Probably Haven’t Seen a Museum Quite Like This Before, Allegro!
As the name probably indicates, the Museum of Unnatural History is not an ordinary museum. To start with, it’s not really a museum — at least, not in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s an extension of the non-profit organization 826DC, which aims to cultivate the creativity and writing skills of children from ages 6 through 18. As such, The Museum of Unnatural History is filled with the kids’ creatively embellished accounts of pretend history and science.
Perhaps the main event is a visit to the museum’s quirky gift shop, which is full of hilarious knickknacks, like a huge glass jar marked “Koala Containment Unit,” as well as a big selection of books ranging from kids’ fiction (some published by the museum’s own press) to anthropology and unsolved mysteries for adult readers. Since every object has a story, the store also acts as a catalyst for the 826DC students’ imaginations, helping them see the fun in storytelling.
