Have You Ever Tried the Fried ‘Chicken’ at Woodland’s Vegan Bistro Near Allegro?
Located not far from Allegro, Woodland's Vegan Bistro advertises itself as a place where you can get "delicious, vegan soul food," and the crowds who flock to this popular DC restaurant clearly agree. The food is all vegan, but Woodland's has a reputation as being a good restaurant for non-vegans and non-vegetarians, too, as the entrees are flavorful and hearty enough that it can be easy to forget that they're meatless. Try the vegan fried chicken, which is just as crispy and golden as the fried chicken you've eaten elsewhere. Rich, creamy mac and cheese is a popular side dish, as are the roasted sweet potatoes, slow-simmered collard greens, and cornbread stuffing.
Note that the ordering process can be a little confusing for first-time visitors, so here's how it works: Head straight to the back of the restaurant and place your order at the counter (you can request a sample of anything you want to try). You then head back to the front of the restaurant where you pick the table where you'd like to enjoy your meal.
