Thip Khao Serves Up Adventurous Laotian Cuisine for Daring Diners at Allegro
Thip Khao is decorated in an ultra-modern style with a geometric chandelier of glowing cubes hanging from the ceiling and high-backed chairs with metal legs lining the room. Don't let the modern decor fool you, though: this Columbia Heights restaurant is committed to serving up Laotian cuisine made based on years of tradition.
There is a standard lunch and dinner menu at Thip Khao, but regulars at this place suggest that if you're an adventurous eater you might turn your attention to what's called the "jungle menu." Here you'll find not-for-the-faint-of-heart dishes like spicy pig's blood sausage with peanut and ginger, as well as fried pig's ear topped with tamarind salt and sriracha sauce. If that's a bit too wild for you, try something like the eggplant curry stew or pork skewers marinated in lemongrass and ginger.
