Don’t Miss the Upcoming Installment of Cooking Up History
The National Museum of American History sheds light on every aspect history, not just what’s written in textbooks. It even tells the back stories of different cultures through a monthly event called Cooking Up History, which consists of a cooking demo led by a local guest chef with commentary from food historian Dr. Ashley Rose Young.
Upcoming Cooking Up History demos include "The Harvey Girls & Meals for Rail Passengers" on Friday, June 28th. The session will unfold at 1 p.m. at the Wallace H. Coulter Performance Plaza, in the demo kitchen at 1 West. You may already know The Harvey Girls, a 1946 film starring Judy Garland. In the film, Garland immortalized the women who worked at restaurants along the railroads in the Southwest around that time. Chef Sarah Lohman and Dr. Young will explain how these women changed the face of American cuisine as they craft a dish that represents the Harvey Girls’ era.
